This is a classic Great Britain 1d Red perforated issue featuring the profile of Queen Victoria. Issued between 1854–1857, these stamps replaced the imperforate Penny Red with machine perforations (perf 14). The example shown carries plate lettering N–C in the lower corners, aiding in plate and position identification. Printed in red-brown ink, the design retains the timeless profile first introduced on the Penny Black. Cancellations of this period are typically barred numeral or Maltese Cross. A highly collectible piece from the mid-Victorian era, valued for its place in postal history as one of the earliest perforated stamps.
