An elegant and highly unusual walnut stool or bench in the Queen Anne style, raised on finely carved cabriole legs, terminating in horse hoof feet and with seat covered Ikat textile. England, circa 1920's.
We like the rare and unusual hoof feet and the broad proportions of this stool. We reupholstered the seat in vintage Ikat textile fragment, combined with moss green velvet to complement the warm, honey colour of the walnut.
This highly unusual stool, with its distinctive, realistically carved horse hoof feet, bears close resemblance to a set of walnut dining chairs previously in our collection, that were copied from 18th century examples for Lord Rufus Isaacs (1860–1935), first Marquess of Reading, British statesman and Lord Chief Justice, Ambassador to the United States (1918–19) and Viceroy of India (1921–26).
