In a second state dust jacket with mention of the Caldecott Award on rear flap but still has same price as the first ($3.50). Bottom corner clipped with 40-80, 1163 and HARPER & ROW PUBLISHERS , the inside rear flap on the second issue of the DJ begins: "Winner of the 1964 Caldecott Award" and ends, at the bottom, "with Chosen Number. One/best Illustrated Children's Book of 1963/by the New York Times."

Content: Very good, near fine content (bright, tight, and clean - as shown).

The illustrator: Maurice Bernard Sendak (June 10, 1928 – May 8, 2012) was an American author and illustrator of children's books. He became most widely known for his book Where the Wild Things Are, first published in 1963. Born to Polish-Jewish parents, his childhood was affected by the death of many of his family members during the Holocaust. Sendak also wrote works such as In the Night Kitchen, Outside Over There, and illustrated many works by other authors including the Little Bear books by Else Holmelund Minarik.
