The book: Rare with the dust jacket and attractive first Caldecott Edition of Where the Wild Things Are - an iconic children's book written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak. The protagonist, Max, is a mischievous boy sent to bed without dinner, who embarks on a fantastical journey to where the wild things are. In this imaginary realm, he encounters bizarre, monstrous creatures, whom he manages to charm and command as their king. This dream-like adventure is a metaphorical exploration of anger, rebellion, and forgiveness. Max learns to balance his wild side with the love and safety of home. The book masterfully combines visual storytelling and narrative to express complex emotions in a child's world.

The illustrator: Maurice Bernard Sendak (June 10, 1928 – May 8, 2012) was an American author and illustrator of children's books. He became most widely known for his book Where the Wild Things Are, first published in 1963. Born to Polish-Jewish parents, his childhood was affected by the death of many of his family members during the Holocaust. Sendak also wrote works such as In the Night Kitchen, Outside Over There, and illustrated many works by other authors including the Little Bear books by Else Holmelund Minarik.
