An almost perfect matching pair of glass pendants of good scale, designed by Sidse Werner and produced by Royal Copenhagen, circa 1980.
It is notable to point out the ever so slight variation to the shades, as it signifies the hand blown nature of these examples. Most commonly produced by Holmegaard and incredibly difficult to find in a pair of the same size; the possibilities are just endless for these in the home.
What is immediately striking is the sleek nature of the trumpet-like shade that elegantly transitions to an elongated neck through the use of stepped collar rings. The glass of choice here is translucent white throughout, displaying as almost weightless in the day before transforming into ethereal hovering forms at night when illuminated. Simply masterful execution and such an exciting piece of design to be in the presence of - one of those that images alone can never do justice.
A remarkably versatile designer, Sidse Werner was both an architect and industrial designer, eventually setting up her own studio in 1970. Although best known for her designs for the Danish furniture giant Fritz Hansen, she also provided glassware concepts for Holmegaard and Royal Copenhagen throughout her career. These lights are a very much sought-after example of the incredible designs that were still being produced in Denmark during the late 20th century, long after Danish Modernism had been well and truly established.
